The organisation
The East Andersonville Residents' Council (EARC) represents the common interests of residents in Chicago's Edgewater neighbourhood, about 20 minutes north of downtown. Their membership includes long-time residents, new homeowners, renters, merchants, and community leaders — all working together on community development, diversity preservation, quality of life, and neighbourhood safety.
The challenge
EARC runs multiple operational streams that all need coordination: a neighbourhood newsletter and website, safety liaison work with government agencies and CAPS (Community Alternative Policing Strategy), four major annual events (summer block party, autumn hot dog social, winter wine and cheese event, and the annual meeting), membership management with renewals and new resident welcome, plus garden and beautification programmes. Managing all of this with volunteer capacity required a platform that could handle diverse functions without complexity.
