Northern California Naginata Federation
“Preserving the art of atarashii naginata — a tradition kept alive primarily by women since 1990.”
Club Administrator, Club Secretary
The organisation
The Northern California Naginata Federation (NCNF) was founded in 1990 by Miyako Tanaka and Malyne Hazard. The federation teaches atarashii (modern) naginata — a Japanese martial art using a sword on the end of a staff. NCNF is affiliated with the US Naginata Federation and the International Naginata Federation, offering classes in San Francisco and San Jose.
The challenge
Managing a martial arts federation with classes in two cities, ranking examinations, tournament coordination, and affiliation tracking across the US Naginata Federation and International Naginata Federation — with a tradition kept alive primarily by women.
How TidyHQ helped
TidyHQ manages NCNF's memberships, class event scheduling across San Francisco and San Jose, meeting records for federation governance, and file storage for ranking materials and tournament documentation.
The outcome
Since implementing TidyHQ, Northern California Naginata Federation has fundamentally changed how they operate.
- 1990 — Year founded
- 136 — Contacts in the database
- 4 — TidyHQ features actively used
Members renew online and register for events through the same platform. The committee spends less time on logistics and more time building the community.
